Things are still extremely dry right now in the Smoky Mountain region and streams are at or near record low levels. The beneficial effect of rains that ocurred a little over a week ago have faded away. However, rain is in the forecast for the coming week and overnight temperatures have been relatively cool. In fact, temperatures on the tops of the Smokies have been in the 40′s which is keeping water temperatures cool in spite of the low levels and warm days.

The fish seem to prefer small flies right now. Terrestrials are still effective, but ants will do better than bigger cricket and hopper patterns. Small beadhead nymphs will also work, but most feeding fish will take a dry fly.
