Video Fishing Report – Cold Weather Fly Fishing in the Smoky Mountains
  • December has come along in a big way. We’ve had high water here in the Smokies and now the cold weather has really set in. This week we got some fishing in while the weather was still a little mild and the water a little high.

Water temperatures have been pretty cold so fishing with nymphs is the way to go. Don’t be afraid to use a split shot and get those flies deep. Look for the deepest, slowest slots in the streams and be thorough.

    Charity & Ian,

I love your video reports! It’s much more informative than just reading a fishing report. Thanks for your time & effort in providing this service for us.

  • This is with out a doubt one of the best fly fishing resources for NC. I’ve been fly fishing for about 5yrs now and some of your videos have helped me greatly. Especially the one about how to properly use a strike indicator. That has been the difference many times between getting skunked and catching fish. Thank you for all that you share and keep up the good work. I have a blog where I try to log my fishing trips. Please check it out.

  • Ian and Charity, It’s always great to get the newsletter…now the videos make it even better. I can’t wait to get back up to Tn next spring for the dry fly and popper fishing. In the meantime, I’ll watch the videos from the warmth of my kitchen!! Best, Jim

  • This video is great, though I am sure it is just a simple error of omission that you did not pinpoint the location of those browns ….!
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all,
    John

    John,
I’d hate to insult your intelligence! Surely an angler of your caliber knows exactly where fish like those are. ;)

  • Heck, you insult my intelligence all the time (via phone and email), so you can tell me….

  • Ian

If it makes you feel better those fish flagrantly insulted me today. Barely an acknowledgement of the nymphs before sliding away yet again.
